BELLFIELD ALPACAS
Spring has sprung, beginning of November and
you would think things would have settled down!
Hah!  Roll on sunshine is all I can say....

Recent bit of misfortune - our wee mate Santiago
died.  RIP Santiago.
We also lost our beloved RAD (not an alpaca).
South Gate Entrance recently
cleared of trees so you can actually
see it!

    Welcome to Bellfield Alpacas

When we bought our property, we were all in agreement that
we needed stock, but what sort?  After attending a small field
day run by the DCC, we decided on these wonderful creatures.

We sourced our first two girls Scoobie and Muffin who came to
us pregnant, and another two companion 'pets' Mac & Oscar.
Our first few months were pretty uneventful and then it was
time for our girls to 'unpac'.  Scoobie unpacked a beautiful solid
brown female cria without any hiccups, but unfortunately
Muffin's was still born and we think premature.  Saving grace
was that it was a boy!

During our first eight months we learnt about AGE (Across-herd
Genetic Evaluation) and decided that we had better make a plan
as to what direction we wanted to take with our breeding.  Suri,
that was it, these beautiful animals with their long dreadlock
fibre was definitely the way to go.  We have started from
scratch, crossing our Huacaya girls with beautiful Suri males.
Going into our second year of crossbreeding it is fun and
exciting.  We ended up with two suri boys (Amigo & Armadeus)
this year but they both have lustrous fibre, light fawn and a
    beautiful rich copper brown.
